Where it all Began.

Today’s world is about convenience and having it all. We work hard and play hard, and we want to reward ourselves with high quality products that help us live our lives to the fullest. We also live in a world that is becoming more aware of the impacts our actions have on the earth. Serenity Foods China brings people the best of both worlds by providing customers with great tasting comfort foods that just happen to be 100% plant-based.
Serenity’s Founder, Lindsey Fine is a long time vegetarian who loves food that reminds her of her home in America: barbeques, picnics, and winter holiday celebrations. She wanted to bring those special experiences to her friends in Shanghai, but in a totally meat-free way. At a time of growing concerns about meat quality, Lindsey introduced her friends to seitan, a wheat-based meat alternative. People loved the texture and taste, so soon she started selling it at farmers’ markets and pop up events.
As an educator, Lindsey understood how important it was to inform people about the benefits of a plant-based diet, and how they could still meet their nutritional needs by following one. She told people about the fact that a high level of animal product consumption can lead to a higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and cancer. She informed them that meat and dairy industries are quickly draining the earth of precious resources. People were surprised to learn how much the meat they were eating was harming their health, and also our planet. However, she knew that she could not simply ask people to stop eating animal-based foods, she had to give them alternatives delicious enough to help them make the change easily.
Serenity has grown into a trusted brand that is much more than the first package of lightly favored seitan. It is now the producer of veggie hot dogs, meatless burgers, vegan jerky, cheeze, butter, and coconut ice cream. In addition, Serenity has opened up what is going to be the first of many fast food style eateries called Happy Buddha, where customers can come to enjoy their favorite comfort foods, such as a veggie dog topped with onions, sauerkraut, jalapenos, tomatoes, ketchup and mustard, or vegan chocolate cake made with nothing but the finest ingredients. Happy Buddha’s customers are not only vegans and vegetarians, but also hard-core meat eaters.
All of Serenity’s products are all natural, locally produced, and use as many locally sourced products as possible. We are committed to making a positive impact in as many ways as possible, and will always source and produce in this way.
Education will continue to be the foundation of what we do. By providing current and potential customers with cooking videos and recipes, we are helping to educate them on a more personal and entertaining level. We want to connect with our customers in a way that keeps them coming back to learn more, and hopefully start to share this information with others. The seeds we plant in this way will be the foundation of something much bigger.
Serenity is about to embark on a journey that will take the company outside of the bustling city of Shanghai, and across the vast landscape of China. In two years’ time, we will have Happy Buddhas across the country feeding people their favorite foods, and creating memories that will last a lifetime, and creating a positive impact on the environment as well. After that, we will expand to other Asian countries.
In order to do this, we need your help. We need to tell you our story so you can help us share it with the world. Step by step we can change people’s minds of what comfort food is and should be. In turn we can all make the world a better place; one bite at a time.
